BATON ROUGE, La. — In a stunning legal development Thursday morning, officials at Louisiana State University reportedly filed a lawsuit against the University of Louisiana System claiming “severe emotional distress, reputational damage, and excessive Cajun seasoning” following the Ragin’ Cajuns’ 7–2 victory Wednesday night in Lafayette.
According to the complaint (filed in the highly specialized Court of Hurt Feelings), LSU alleges that the events of March 4 caused “psychological trauma to Tiger fans statewide,” after the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns baseball defeated the Tigers by five runs at M.L. “Tigue” Moore Field.
Louisiana scored three runs in the first inning and never really looked back, ultimately winning 7–2 while outhitting LSU and taking advantage of multiple Tiger errors, leaving the visitors visibly shaken and possibly Googling “midweek games don’t count, right?”
The lawsuit claims LSU entered the game believing the Cajuns existed primarily to provide midweek confidence boosts.
Instead, the Tigers found themselves in what legal filings describe as:
“An unexpectedly competitive baseball environment that resulted in embarrassment.”
Court documents further allege Louisiana’s early three-run first inning constituted “intentional emotional harm.”
An LSU spokesperson clarified the university’s position:
“We were led to believe these games were exhibitions for SEC teams.”
According to game records, the Tigers allowed Louisiana to jump ahead early after an RBI double and defensive miscues. The Cajuns later extended the lead in the fifth inning and added insurance late, securing the 7–2 upset over the No. 2-ranked Tigers.
LSU coach Jay Johnson attempted to put the loss in perspective afterward, saying it was merely a “speed bump” and a learning experience.
Legal analysts say that statement is now expected to be used as Exhibit A by Cajuns attorneys.
The lawsuit reportedly includes screenshots from X (formerly Twitter) showing what LSU attorneys describe as “massive emotional instability among Tiger supporters.”
Examples cited in the filing include:
“We lost to Louisiana… in baseball???”
“Midweek games are stupid anyway.”
“This is why college baseball rankings are meaningless.”
Meanwhile, Cajuns fans have been submitting their own evidence, including one response simply reading:
“Scoreboard: 7–2.”
Legal experts say this may be the strongest argument in the entire case.
Representatives for the University of Louisiana System issued a brief statement Thursday morning:
“We respectfully decline to comment on pending litigation, but we would like to note that the game lasted nine innings.”
Sources close to the Cajuns program say the team plans to counter-sue for “excessive whining” and “attempted SEC exceptionalism.”
The case is expected to proceed quickly through the courts, though LSU has already filed a motion requesting that the first inning be replayed, claiming it “set an unfair tone for the evening.”
Until then, the official ruling from the scoreboard remains:
Louisiana 7, LSU 2.
Which, according to legal scholars, may be difficult evidence for LSU to overcome.
