LAFAYETTE, La. – The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns picked up a hard-fought 4-1 win over Georgia Southern at Russo Park, in a game that spanned two days due to a lightning delay Friday night that forced suspension after six innings. The Cajuns resumed play Saturday afternoon and slammed the door to secure an important Sun Belt Conference victory.

The contest started under partly cloudy skies Friday evening with Louisiana setting the tone early. In the first inning, Maddox Mandino reached base after being hit by a pitch, stole second, and came around to score on an RBI single up the middle by Luke Yuhasz, giving the Cajuns a quick 1-0 lead.

In the fourth, Louisiana added another run thanks to a clutch two-out RBI triple by Owen Galt, scoring Carson Hepworth after a fielder’s choice and two stolen bases earlier in the frame.

Chase Morgan delivered a brilliant start on the mound for Louisiana, throwing six shutout innings before the game was halted due to lightning around 7:50 p.m. Friday night. Morgan allowed just two hits, walked two, and struck out five, leaving with a 2-0 lead intact.

When the game resumed Saturday afternoon, Andrew Herrmann took over pitching duties and worked the final three innings to earn the save. Georgia Southern briefly cut the lead to 2-1 when Daniel Haab launched a solo home run in the seventh, but Herrmann quickly regrouped and kept the Eagles off balance the rest of the way.

Louisiana added two key insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth. After a walk to Drew Markle, Yuhasz came up big again, ripping a triple to right-center to drive in Markle. Conor Higgs followed with a sacrifice fly to plate Yuhasz, pushing the Cajuns' lead to 4-1.

Offensively, Louisiana was led by Yuhasz, who finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs, a triple, and a stolen base. Galt also had a key triple and an RBI, while Caleb Stelly chipped in two hits and two stolen bases to keep the Cajuns' offense moving.

On the mound, Morgan improved his record to 4-1, while Herrmann earned his second save of the season. The duo combined to limit Georgia Southern to just six hits and one run across nine innings.

Louisiana (21-23, 11-8 SBC) looks to keep the momentum going as they continue the series against Georgia Southern (23-19, 9-10 SBC).
